Tokio Hotel’s Japan Showcase can be labeled a whopping success. Alas, all good things, though, must come to an end. We wind up the occasion with Vnlasteamer’s notes on the band’s visit to the Germany embassy in Tokyo and their showcase. See the multitude of videos and photos, along with the details of this historic fan moment, at the inserted links.

http://tokiohotelamerica.net/forum/s…&postcount=430

While Vnlasteamer waited for the day of the show, she’d provided us with an insight to her world and daily activities while in Japan.

Vnlasteamer: I am definitely not a foodie, food is something I don’t really care about. I’m also vegetarian, which rules out most Japanese food. When I studied abroad here in the summer of 2007, I felt like I had something to prove, and ate absolutely whatever my host family gave me, and never told them I was vegetarian – mistake. I’ve been a vegetarian since 2001. So I’m eating continental breakfasts at my hotel, and getting groceries like fruit and yogurt at the little Japanese convenience stores, which are called “konbini.”

The Japan trip is lasting a week. I’ve missed some classes – scheduled a final early and wrote a paper from the road. That was for my German pop culture class, the prof was pretty understanding. xD My other classes aren’t too much of a problem to miss, other than Arabic, which is going to take some catching up.

I spent a summer living here when I was seventeen, with a host family, and the experience was amazing. Japan is a beautiful country with kind, wonderful people, and I’ll always enjoy visiting. I’m highly individualistic, and I like to live my life a little bit outside the lines. I’m really more compatible with German culture, which is why I threw myself so intensely into learning the language. A city like Berlin is perfect for me.

My role model? Within TH, I look up to Bill the most. His entire way of being inspires me constantly to live life to its fullest and follow my heart. But they are all role models to me – Tom was the reason I started learning guitar again, and the story of the four of them, finding success together, is incredibly inspiring and a call to fight for your dreams.

There is a quote I live by, yes, but it’s actually not from TH. A German band called Silbermond has a song called “Das Ende vom Kreis,” and there’s a part of the chorus that I always hold very close to my heart. “Kein Weg ist zu lang, kein Weg ist zu weit, denn ich glaub an jeden Schritt, weil ich weiß, irgendwann schließt sich der Kreis.” (No way is too long, no way is too far, because I believe in every step, because I know, someday the circle closes.) It can mean whatever you want it to mean. No matter what I’m working towards, dreaming of, fighting for at the moment, those lines give me patience, determination, and self-belief.

Click the link for a review of the showcase: http://www.tokiohotelamerica.net/forum/showthread.php?t=26255&page=73

I just got back from the airport – it was just what I needed, a very gradual comedown and distraction. Got out of the hotel, saw some other parts of Tokyo, enjoyed the train ride, found the other fans, chatted some in Japanese. We didn’t see the twins; their Japanese handler and their bodyguard announced that they’d already gone through security. The Japanese fans took the news very calmly and quietly, but as soon as they were away from the men they broke down. Stayed with them a few minutes, said goodbyes, and took a train back to Tokyo.

I don’t usually listen to TH songs before their shows, unless others are listening and it’s a fan-togetherness thing, or at least I don’t listen exhaustively. After their shows though, I usually need to listen to them kind of a lot, just to ease myself down off the high. Listened to Humanoid City Live and German Humanoid in their entireties today. xD

——————————————

Safe travels, Vnlasteamer. Thank you and good luck with your studies.

Tokio Hotel America is delighted to bring you highlights of the Tokio Hotel Japan Showcase. Vnlasteamer, who is not only a fan, but also doubling as our eyes and ears for the is wonderful event, will share her observation and review.

Vnlasteamer: The most precious part of seeing TH live is experiencing the radiant energy that Bill emanates when he is truly happy to be onstage and connecting with the fans. I think the symbolism of this moment and its significance in the band’s journey is likely to make the showcase an especially emotionally charged event, and I wanted to be able to experience that. Also, I’ve been to TH concerts in both the US and Europe, and while the European shows were spectacular, there’s nothing like seeing the band in a more intimate venue, where you’re so close to them. I think this showcase is likely to be more like the club shows, and that’s an experience I’ve wanted to have again since 2008. And lastly, I studied Japanese in high school and lived in Japan during the summer of 2007, and returning to Tokyo to see the band that changed the direction of my life feels like a union of two parts of myself.

I arrived in Tokyo on the 12th, earlier the same day the twins flew in. I had no idea when they were coming or which airport they were using, so I was already in the city when they arrived. It would have been nice to see them, but the airport was also a chance for Japanese fans who may not have showcase access to see TH, and I think it makes the band happy, when they arrive in a new country, to see new faces and new fans.

There haven’t been any ads for the showcase, not even at the venue itself – as it’s not a commercial event, they’re not promoting it.

I haven’t met any Japanese fans yet, but later today (December 13) I’ll be with some Japanese fans at the German embassy here in Tokyo. TH will supposedly be there for a reception honoring German-Japanese diplomatic relations, and the fans hope to see the band again.

Looking forward to the showcase! I have a lot of nervous energy right now – normally when I get into a city for TH, I head straight to the venue, start camping, and don’t leave except to buy food and take showers. I’m only ever truly at ease when I’m parked on the concrete outside the concert location, haha. But so far the fans are not camping, it may be illegal to do so, it’s raining, and there are other places to see the band, so this is a very different pre-concert dynamic from what I’m used to.

Thanks, Vnlasteamer. Fans, stay tuned for further updates.

Tokio Hotel never does anything with a whimper or sputter.

The Latin America tour blasted through São Paulo, Brazil, Santiago Chile, Lima, Peru, culminating with a triumphant finale in Mexico City on Thursday, December 2, 2010. Palacio del Desportes, the arena, must have had its foundation rocked by the vibration of the 16,000+ Tokitas stomping and singing along with their favorite German band.

Three of our very own THA fans: Halucy, Wampykitty, and Prettiest21 shared their eyewitness accounts of this epic concert.

THA: What made you decide to attend the Mexico concert? Was this your first, BTW?
Halucy: Wampy’s constant urging finally wore me down. ;) It’s my first time seeing TH perform in an arena. I’ve seen them at 5 US club concerts, waaaaay back in 2008.

Wampykitty: Mexico City was a short flight from Los Angeles…lots shorter than many of the flights I’ve taken to see a TH concert. This was not my first TH concert, more like 15th or 16th or something.

Prettiest21: I decided to attend this concert because it was the closest they have played to the US and I wanted to experience the Humanoid City Tour in a large venue. Plus I couldn’t wait another minute to see them!

THA: Share your insight about the Mexican Tokitas?
Halucy: So much love for the Mexican Tokitas! They really know how to show the band some love! I’ve been to many concerts in my time, but I don’t think I’ve ever been to a concert with so much enthusiasm, not to mention so much noise! Not only that, but it was such a respectful audience. You always hear about the pushing, and…various other things fans do to get closer to the stage. I didn’t experience any of that from where I was. Even after the unintended break, when security came out asking the crowd to move back, I expected the crowd to get sucked right back up as soon as the band reappeared. It didn’t happen. They were there to have a great time, not to make each other uncomfortable.

Wampykitty: I think the Mexican fans were some of the most joyful, energetic, and supportive I’ve seen at any TH concert. They sang along to every song, cheered and screamed a lot and generally fed a lot of love and energy back at the band. They also showed they were polite and reasonable and able to follow instructions. I’ve never seen a TH audience actually STEP BACK when asked…but they did. I was super impressed and would attend another concert in Mexico without hesitation.

Prettiest21: We met up with the girls from Onitth (the Official Tokio Hotel Mexico fan cub) and they were so warm, sweet, giving, caring, and hospitable. I’ve never met anyone like them in my life. I’m still blown away with their generosity. They are forever in my heart.

THA: Just before the concert began, what were you feeling? BTW, where were you sitting/standing?
Halucy: I don’t know that I was feeling anything, to be honest, other than frantic because traffic was horrendous! That, and our taxi driver was trying to take us to a different arena. I’ve got enough TH concerts under my belt to not have pre-concert jitters, I guess. I was in the pit, on Tom’s side.

Wampykitty: The excitement right before a TH concert is hard to describe. The Mexican fans were also screaming at every single movement on stage in anticipation that it might have something to do with the band coming out…so that led to lots of adrenalin rushes! TH concerts are ALWAYS standing…even if you have a seat. I was in the seats on Tom’s side, about 9 rows up.

Prettiest21: We were lucky enough to get to attend the meet and greet right before the concert. I was oddly calm and serene. I was in a state of disbelief. Euphoric. We had floor tickets and seats and chose to be in the seats because the floor was really full.

THA: What is one or two highlights about the concert to share with the fandom? For those who experienced the Meet and Greet, definitely share.
Halucy: That is such a hard question because the whole concert is the highlight. They are such amazing entertainers; so good musically, and so energetic. With every song they give their all, so none of them pale in comparison to others. I guess the thing that stands out the most is the very obvious gratitude on the band member’s faces, especially Bill’s. That might just be because I was looking at him the most, but his face was just beaming with joy. How can you not enjoy the concert with so much love coming off the crowd, and the band? That’s not to say they didn’t seem more than grateful at the other concerts I’ve seen them in, but this was on a different level. I also love hearing the songs performed with a different arrangement than they were presented on the album. I’m more of a rock fan, and appreciated hearing them rock out more.

Wampykitty: Hearing thousands of fans singing along with Bill, the most I’ve heard at any concert. Seeing how supportive the Mexican fans were and how patient they were when the concert was interrupted.

Prettiest21: There are much more than two but I would say meeting the girls from Onitth and the meet and greet were two of the highlights. Having the opportunity to tell Bill that we came from America just to see them and to see his happy reaction. Tom was also surprised. And to get our photo taken of the band holding the American flag. Amazing! I told Bill we came from America to see them and he said “REALLY???” with a big grin! Tom said “NO WAY!” Then we told them we have been waiting for them to return to the US for 2 yrs so we decided to come see them in Mexico. I asked if they would take a photo with the US flag and Bill said “OF COURSE!” It was a magical night. Tokio Hotel is amazing and it is true their fans are the best. Thank you to all the Tokitas in Mexico City for your love, friendship and hospitality. Te amo mucho!! ♥

THA: What message do you have for the fans about future concerts?
Halucy: Let’s hope we get some in the U.S. soon, so there will be something tell about. I guess my message is to not miss the opportunity if it comes up. Whatever it takes to get to one of their concerts, do it.

Wampkitty: If you can GO, GO!

Prettiest21: Be patient. Enjoy every moment. Take in all in. Live in the moment. And take all the memories with you. Then wait for next time. :)
**********

The ladies also made it in the Mexico newspaper, La Reforma: http://img842.imageshack.us/i/escanear0014b.jpg/

Thank you for transporting us to that day and sharing the memories. Much appreciated.

I feel so terrible right now. How could I have missed highlighting more info about the stage from the Humanoid City tour and talking about Misty Buckley? I will fix that situation right now. Oddly, an article has hit our radar that we never saw before… not sure how.

Tokio Hotel wanted to bring a city to the fans and they worked with Misty Buckley to design the now familiar Humanoid City stage. The futuristic, techy, stark and moving stage, complete with the infamous “egg”. Then Misty’s designs were brought to life by Brilliant Stages. You can view their website and portfolio here. They have been creating masterpieces for over two decades and certainly, the Humanoid City Tour stage is among their finest work. (not that I am biased or anything) :D

Now that I am reading more of this, I think we will see lots more about this on the Humanoid City Live DVD! As you know by now, the stage was bombastic, futuristic and at the center of it all? The infamous “egg”. The stage work was done in London…. wait a minute, wasn’t World Behind my Wall also filmed in the UK? It’s all fitting together now!

Here is more of the story of how Misty worked with Brilliant Stages and Tokio Hotel. Her images are on this post, so I will not dupe them here.

Brilliant Stages Tour Europe with Tokio Hotel – 27.04.10
Brilliant Stages took the set designed by Misty Buckley and turned it into a full on touring show

Unleashing their third studio album, Humanoid, Germany’s biggest rock band, Tokio Hotel, is currently embarked on a mammoth tour visiting over 30 cities throughout Europe. Touring with them, under the guidance of Production Manager, Phil Broad, is a set built by UK-based Brilliant Stages.

As Germany’s most successful band ever, with credits including Germany’s first ever Moonman, MTV VMA for Best New Artist and EMAs in both 2008 and 2009, the Welcome to the Humanoid City tour is the biggest show this multi-award winning band have ever produced.

“This was the first time I have worked directly with Brilliant Stages and they were absolutely amazing,” says Buckley. “Tony Bowern and Mel Welch were so accommodating and understanding of what I was trying to achieve. They were happy to spend time discussing my design and were excellent on delivery. I was also lucky to have Malcolm Birkett to realise my design and help make the transition from design to stage a comfortable one.

“The process of taking my design from sketches to model construction was a very collaborative process in which I could take advantage of Brilliant Stages super-technological abilities. Brilliant Stages meanwhile were very open to any changes that occurred during development and, since Mel Welch and I both speak a common CAD language, we were able to communicate and develop the ideas on this level.

“Brilliant Stages give you real respect as a designer and nothing is ever a problem for them.”

The result is a set that lives up to Tokio Hotel’s well-deserved reputation for delivering spectacular live shows.

The centre piece is a giant, 6m high, metallic sphere, or Pod, with a crenellated split around its equator. The Pod breaks open around this split to allow the top half to elevate above the stage and reveal the drum riser. The top and bottom halves of the Pod are each formed from 16 facetted panels. Each panel is covered in an aluminium Expamet mesh laid onto a profiled backing, with a slotted detail which allows Lighting /Video Designer, Dave Maxwell, to back light with stunning results.

Seven of the lower panels are hydraulically operated to open out like the segments of an orange, revealing the band as they make their entrance onto stage. In the centre of the Pod is the drummer on the drum riser which can be raised 3.2m into the air by a pair of scissor lifts to the mid point of the Pod. At this level the drum riser meets an upstage semi circular walkway, flanked by safety barriers, from which, by means of two flown bridges, the performers can access upstage ego platforms to stage left and right. The bridges were also constructed to take the extra weight of a number of moving lights.

The Pod presides over a main stage measuring 23m x 8.5m which incorporates custom built tech bunkers complete with the, now-standard, Brilliant Stages’ louvre viewing grills giving sight lines onto stage. Set within the mainstage are a lift at centre stage and a piano lift on stage left, while the downstage edge is finished with Neaco grill decks. Incorporated into the grills are pyrotechnics from ffp Spezialeffekte & Veranstaltungslogistik GmbH which sit abreast of a set of central stairs leading down to a catwalk stretching 7m into the audience.

Finally, the set was given an urban gothic scenic finish by Perry Scenic.

“I found the entire design-to-construction process very straightforward,” says Phil Broad. “The team at Brilliant made every effort to ensure we had exactly what we wanted, and were very amenable to all the last minute small changes that always occur. In the end the set looked exactly like the model. As always it was a pleasure to work with them.”

“I found the whole experience really fluid,” adds Buckley. “Brilliant Stages were very supportive to the creative concept, which is exactly what you want. As a designer one is continually working towards bigger dreams and my experience with Brilliant Stages has inspired me towards better and better things. I’ve been really lucky to work with them and would do so again at the drop of a hat!”
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
WOW! Seriously, where was that article hiding?

Are you even MORE excited now to see the DVD?

Amendment: As a reminder for those who may have forgotten and for new fans, Misty Buckley and her team designed the tour stage for the Humanoid City Tour which was from February 2010 to April 2010. It fulfilled Tokio Hotel’s vision to bring a city to the fans as well as embodied their artistic vision for delivering the Humanoid Album on tour.

They have done so much in the last seven years since their career as Tokio Hotel began (in 2003). Amazing young men.
