On April 12, 2010, Tokio Hotel not only rocked the rafters in Milan with an epic concert, but used this venue to tape their live concert DVD. If the fans at the Padova concert were any indication of the love that would be shown in Milan, Tokio Hotel was guaranteed the most intense fan love and squee fest. As we reminisce on the concert anniversary, THA selected a few fans—Sarahogberg, Emmla, Ichbinsara, AlixDisney–who’d attended the concert, along with McBuffy who’d eagerly waited to enjoy the DVD and will share her review of Humanoid City Live. Ladies, thank you. We’re happy to have you in the THA fandom.(BTW, no copyright infringement intended with use of photos.)

Sarahogberg: I became a fan in January 2008

Did your plans to attend the concert change when they announced that it would be filmed – did you sit in line for hours? Did you choose something special to wear? Were you going with friends? My plans didn’t change because of the DVD recording because I decided to go to the Milan concert about a week before the concert’s date when we already knew about the filming. Yes, me and some girls came to the queue in the morning, so we sat in the line for like 9-12 hours. (don’t remember exactly). I didn’t choose something special to wear, though I was wearing a pair of jeans so I had pockets for my ticket, money and other stuff. I was going with a girl I got to know for the Sweden concerts on the same tour, and we met four Swedish girls on the airport so we sat in the line with two of them.

What was the mood of the fans? Did you participate in any fan action? The mood of the fans in the queue were thrilled and excited, though some were mad because of the security guards who, in those fans opinions, ruined the queue and they lost their places in the queue to other fans. Yeah, one fan action was to clap our hands during Zoom into Me and that I did.

Were there any fans that you bonded with while waiting for the concert to begin? We and the Swedish girls we sat with talked and made the time go faster.

Where were you located in the stadium? One Swedish girl and I found each other in the arena after running up “The hell stairs” and we together chose to stand in Georg’s side. About the 5th row, though after the pushing got even worse and the heat was horrible we decided to go back to the 9-11th row at Georg’s side. What was your first thought when Noise started and the egg opened? It was a mix of so many emotions and I thought that this is the end of this tour for me. I started to cry a little bit. It was so fantastic, the tour. Were you screaming/crying/ dancing throughout the concert? I was singing, jumping and clapping my hands. I didn’t cry anymore after Noise ;)

What were two of your favorite performed songs? Break Away and Forever Now. Pick a TH member, what was a memorable moment from the concert? Georg, he was looking at all the Swedish flags on his side many times hehe. I don’t remember that much from any of them cause I couldn’t see them that well haha! How would you describe that concert–three adjectives? Crazy, happy and full of energy

What’s your message to TH about this concert or the Humanoid tour, in general? Of course I have to say something about the Sweden concerts. It was amazing to be at my very first concert in Stockholm and I am so grateful for everything! To hear Monsoon for the first time live was a special thing. The Milan concert was cool to experience. And the tour was a chance of a life time, and I am so happy for the guys. The Humanoid album is definitely a “live album”. To hear it live is so so so amazing. The songs come to life. And I have to thank the guys for playing the “old songs” -Break away, Ready set go and Monsoon!!!

Emmla: I became a fan in September 2007.
I wanted to attend the concert but hadn’t planned to because I had been to the two Swedish concerts, but when they sent out the email saying that it was going to be filmed we decided to go. Yes, we sat in line for about 12 hours. I had decided to wear the Tokio Hotel T-shirt I bought at one of the Swedish concert. I went with one of my friends but we also met up with other Swedish fans at the airport and we went together with them to the venue.

What was the mood of the fans? The air was filled with anticipation, everyone was very eager to get in and get the concert started. It was a bit tense though, specifically after we had been let into the venue. It felt like a war zone, everyone pushing and shoving as if the concert had begun, which it hadn’t. I did participate in the fan action during Zoom Into Me when everyone clapped their hands during the song. It was really beautiful.

Bonding with fans? Yes, the rest of the Swedish gang. Wonderful girls that I hadn’t met before, we helped each other out.

Where were you located? On the floor, on Georg’s side. At first probably 4th row from the stage but before the concert began we went a little further back because of all the pushing. First thought when Noise started and the egg opened? It’s actually happening. I’m actually here. They are here. I’m seeing them again. I screamed and sang along, it was a bit too crowded to dance but I moved around. I didn’t cry. I almost cried during World Behind My Wall though, because it reminds me of the first time I saw that song performed live at the EMA’s back in 2009 and I remember thinking that this was the last time I was going to hear that song. At least the last time during that tour.

What were two of your favorite performed songs? Screamin’ and Phantomrider Which TH member stood out? Bill, when he noticed the fan action during Zoom Into Me and he said “thank you so much” before the song was even over. How would you describe that concert? Crazy, unbelievable, amazing.

Your message to TH? I want to thank TH and all the fans around the world, for an amazing tour. It was obvious that the band did everything (from the stage, to the outfits, to the songs) exactly how they wanted to do it and that they loved being on stage in front of us every night. I hope they know how much it meant to us fans. I hope they are proud of that performance in Milan, just as we are proud to have that concert in our DVD collections.

Ichbinsara: I first started to listen to their songs in 2006, at the spring. I fell in love with Durch den Monsun. It took me a while to figure out who they were and I did not completely join the fandom until 2007.

I had dreamed about going to this concert since they announced it because it was one of those that would not be too expensive to go to. But of course I was even more excited about it when I found out it was being filmed. It is an amazing feeling to be able to see a concert you actually attended on DVD as often as you like. So when Emmla said she was seriously interested there was no doubt in my mind. We were in line for about 14 hours and we were in Milan for a little over 36 hours. So we just slept there, went to the concert and slept again before going home.

I picked summer clothes, about a month earlier when we went to the concerts in Sweden it was -10C and what we call snow chaos. So It was nice being able to wear clothes that you could actually have inside the venue too. I went there with Emmla who I met at THA and we met some awesome Swedish girls at the airport that we hung out with the whole trip. It was excitement and hysteria. People were really nice in the line but it was really crazy as soon as we got inside. A lot of screaming and pushing, but when someone would faint, everyone was kind and helpful.

Did you participate in any fan action? Yes, we all clapped our hands during a special part in “Zoom into Me” I love that one the live CD it sounds a bit like rain. Where were you located in the stadium? I was on the floor, in front of the catwalk. First thought when Noise started and the egg opened? My head was kind of empty but my heart was beating fast. For me, listening to Tokio Hotel’s music gives often more than a thought, more like a feeling in my whole body. Throughout the concert? I was mostly singing and crying. Two of your favorite performed songs? This is the toughest question. Noise because it is so powerful and a perfect start for a perfect night and In Your Shadows because it is so emotional and beautiful.

Pick a TH member, what was a memorable moment from the concert? Gustav, – Of course he was brilliant through it all but I just love the first sound of the drums at the beginning of the concert. Makes my heart race. How would you describe that concert? Crowded, warm and amazing. Your message to TH? I would say that this is the best experience that I have had in my life. The shows I went to were fantastic. Their energy, their talent and their joy makes all their shows masterpieces. Sitting in the snow for 14 hours, freezing my butt of, being climbed on by crazy girls, travelling a long way… I would do it all again because no matter how tired I am, or cold I feel so alive and happy when they play the music I love. When I stand there I can’t help to love everyone in the room, even the girls pulling my hair or elbowing me. For a moment the world outside don’t matter. It is just all of us, and the music that bring us together.

AlixDisney: Became a fan in November 2007
No, my plans didn’t change [with the announcement of filming]. I was camping in Geneva when they announced that they would be filming the DVD in Milan, but my friends and I already knew we wanted to do all we had to do to be in the front row in Milan: camp for multiple days, spend the night out etc. It’s our city, and we wanted to be there all together, close to one another and as close to the stage as possible. As for clothes and so on, I never wear pretty things at concerts.. I just want to be comfortable, so a tracksuit is my go-for outfit, But of course you don’t wanna look completely worn out if by any chance you end up on the dvd, so I tried to do a decent makeup, that’s all. And we made a couple of banners while lining up, which I had never done before.

Everyone was very excited and impatient to get in. The waiting for me was nerve-racking, it was my last concert and I was scared of those stairs… you have to climb like 6 flights of stairs up to the top of the arena and then all the way down to the floor, i was afraid i was going to fall or get hurt. Your location in the stadium? On the floor, front row, Georg’s side.

What was your first thought when Noise started and the egg opened? One one hand, it was a huge relief. We had been talking, dreaming and planning about the Milan concert for SO long, it almost felt like a legendary event, and the whole previous week had been so exhausting. I didn’t think, I just felt overwhelmed by everything… the crowd, the crazy atmosphere, the music, being surrounded by the people I love, and of course THEM. I got hyper, all I wanted to do was scream and sing and jump (even though there wasn’t much room to xD) But I have to confess one of the first things that crossed my mind as the egg opened was “It’s the last time I see this.” Were you screaming/crying/ dancing throughout the concert? Yes! As much as I could.

Two of your favorite performed songs? I don’t know… probably In Your Shadow and Pain Of Love. Description of concert:Absorbing, energetic, unforgettable. Memorable moment: I can just say Bill looked amazed and so happy with the crowd throughout the whole concert… he would often look all around himself, shaking his head and smiling, as in “I can’t believe it”. Every “Thank you” and “Grazie” sounded deeply heartfelt. Message to TH: About the Humanoid City Tour, I’m not ashamed to say that it was one of the greatest times I had in my life.

Following up on that Milano experience, I wanted to get an avid fan’s review of the live DVD concert. McBuffy’s mad skills with the featured Macro pic came in handy (hugs). Let’s have a quick chat with McBuffy. Pick one word to describe yourself to (and impress LOL) each TH member:

McBuffy: For Tom I would say “passionate”. I’m passionate about life, my faith, and my family. If it’s important to me, then I am 100% invested. Whether it’s a church/community project, my job as a Jazzercise instructor, or my love for a German rock band(!), I am passionately committed. For Bill I would say “love”. I believe in the power of love. I know that it is the reason for our existence; to love and be loved, and I try to live a life of serving others. For Georg, I would say “fun-loving”. I think I was blessed with the gift of positivity. I find great joy in living, and I am a positive, ‘not only is the glass half full, but look at that awesome glass!’ kind of person. I am happy pretty much all of the time and LOVE to laugh. For Gustav, I would say “stamina”. I don’t like to do things halfway. I am a hard worker, especially when I have a specific task. I will work tirelessly until it’s completed to the best of my ability.

When and how did you become a fan? I became a fan after seeing them at the 2008 VMA awards. I see this enormous truck pull up with 4 men standing in the back. I am immediately drawn to the tall, thin, very attractive one with incredible clothes, hair and make up. I’m impressed that the MTV personality knows their first names and think “Should I know who these people are?” Then, he speaks! What a wonderful voice, and an accent! I am stricken. Who are these people!?! I soon find out they are Tokio Hotel, an up and coming band from Germany and they are nominated as Best New Artist. I observe in this brief introductory interview that the boys are humble, polite, funny and absolutely charming. I also learn that Bill, the outgoing one who is doing most of the talking, is a twin brother to the handsome one with the dreadlocks. Incredible! Later on in the show, they win their award. Again, I am struck as I watch them exude genuine joy at winning and excitedly (and Bill, so gracefully) rush to the stage to accept. He stands there stunned, blows air from his cheeks, turns to his mates, grins and in a giggle says something in German and speaks again. He is humble, he is gracious, he is thankful, and they all are so happy. I am in love. The next morning I bought Scream. LOVED IT! Within a month I drive 5 hours to Pennsylvania for an in-store signing (Heaven!). I spend the next 6 months on the computer looking up everything I can about Tokio Hotel. I find pictures, music, interviews, THTV(!), and TokioHotelAmerica.com. I started in the archives from the beginning and read every post that was posted on the main board. And I don’t think I have missed a day since.

Review of Humanoid City Live DVD – 5 out of 5 stars! There is a reason Tokio Hotel is the biggest band to come out of Germany in the last 20 years. And that reason can be summed up in two words: Live Performance. Tokio Hotel is shown at their very best on their latest DVD. Their futuristic, sci-fi theme is on display with a beautifully constructed set, complete with rustic metal walkways, platforms and an out-of-this-world sphere which opens to reveal the out-of-this-world frontman, Bill Kaulitz dressed in glorious designer twinkling and glowing spacesuits! Each member of the band commands the stage as they play their well-crafted, original, music, that variates from hard hitting rock to uptempo pop, to soft, emotional ballads. As good as their music is on CD it’s nothing compared to how they sound live. With almost 10 years together as a band, despite their young ages, these German boys are seasoned professionals, and it shows. Their ability to connect with the audience and move the crowd physically and emotionally is amazing. Even viewing the DVD you are drawn in by the passion, power, and charisma they project on stage. 1 viewing, and you’ll be a fan!

Your TH Ritual: On the mornings when I have to open the Jazzercise center, the first thing I blast is “Ubers Ende Der Welt” from Zimmer Live CD. When I hear Tom’s opening guitar riff, it just sends electricity through my entire body! Other songs I love to play loud and dance around wildly to are “Hurricanes and Suns”, “Wo sind eure Hände” (Live), “Freunde Bleiben”, “Jung Und Nicht Mehr Jugendfrei”, ” and “Breakaway”. And there are LOTS of songs I would love to use for Jazzercise routines. I could do a whole class of just Tokio Hotel!

To be short it was amazing…the guys were so kind and smiling also during the soundcheck (that was really wonderful…they were so near to me and I was able to call them and show Tom what I wrote for him!!!) and after, during the M&G, they were so sweet… I asked Bill to draw me an half heart on my left wrist.. he took it and looking me in the eyes asked me what he had to do two times… he didn’t understand… I was too excited! And then I asked Tom the other part!!!A little bit later we took the photo… I was between Bill and Goerg… I hug Bill very strong and…smiled!!! And then the wonderful show(Padova)!!! After 4 days I did the tatto!!!!!! It’s beautiful!!! I’m a little bit sad because I was the FIRST in Italy… and all the other girls did the same thing after me during the succesives M&G!!! SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH…I hope you can understand!!! kisses AMBRATH with love from Italy

Thank you Summer for sharing your story with us. It is very inspiring. I know that this band has changed so many lives and I agree with you that we are like a big family. And very glad that their music has helped you so much.

Summer’s Story
I discovered Tokio Hotel about a year and a half ago. This was a very dark time in my life, I did a lot of things tat today i regret, like cutting, smoking, drinking, and a lot of other bad things. I first heard Monsoon, and i liked the song, style and just everything right away. But at the time I only listened to Monsoon, the song spoke to me like no other, and that may have been because i was heartbroken or depressed. but after about a week i wanted to hear more so I looked into them, i heard Scream, and fell in love.

Soon after that someone very close to me committed suicide. This to no surprise put me in a deep depression. I wanted to just die too, i felt alone, scared and even betrayed at the fact that this person would leave me. I was suicidal, and was cutting deeper, and closer to the veins with each time. after a couple weeks of this, i was on the computer and i saw that my you tube channel had made one of that recommendations for “don’s jump” i saw the name Tokio Hotel and clicked, when the song and verses started to play i was brought to tears. I was able to just cry after all that time. The song literally made me not kill myself that night. I listened to all of there songs after that, “love is dead” “break away” “forgotten children” “1000 Oceans” every single one of them made me just feel better. after that night i decided to get help, i went to my counselor and talked it out, but everyday i would go home and listen to Tokio Hotel. I watched interviews and there T.V. and i did something that i hadn’t don’t in what seemed like forever … Laughed.

So now it is a year and a half later. And I am proud to say that i haven’t cut myself in that long. In my mind because of Tokio Hotel’s music, Bill Lyrics and Tom’s happiness i am alive today. I have never been happier, I wear to Tokio Hotel band ALL THE TIME as a reminder to that they did for me even if it wasn’t in person. Now i own there Humanoid CD, Two T-Shirts and plan to see them one day, i am even taking German class so i can talk to them one day =] I also visit the Fan site Everyday. and also comment everyday. Tokio Hotel is the closest band to my heart because they saved my life, and helped make who I am today.
I can honestly say that Tokio Hotel is my FAVORITE BAND EVER!!!! for every reason
There sexiness
There music
There oringiality
and
There life saving lyrics
Thanks for reading this it means so much to me
and i love every fan out there I like to think of us a one big extended family =]

We’ve been working on it since last year and it won’t be an easy one, but mercy, the prizes will be awesome.

This is so amazing. Emmla from Sweden was able to attend the EMA and this is her story. I LOVE this video because it shows the excitement and feeling and you can hear just how AMAZING they sounded and the chaos when the pyro started, oh I just love it! And so happy for Emmla!
====================================

When the show started with the Green Day performance I could not understand that I was actually seeing them. And then Beyonce, she was so fierce! Her performance was one of the best one that night.

And then the show went on with things that I hardly remember haha.
….and then Tokio Hotel came with World behind my wall. I can not with words descirbe how it felt to see TH live. So Im posting this video. It says more than any of my written words. You can hardly see anything, you can barely hear Bill sing, but you can hear mine and Saras reaction as well as a whole arena fangirling ^^

The seconds before we found out wheter or not Th had won ther category, I thought my heart was going to jump out of my chest. And when they won I just screamed, and jumped up and down, and clapped my hands. I even shaked hands with some fellow fans in my block, an italian couple to my right and a french old-fan girl who sat in the row in front of us. She had the coolest tshirt with pics from the Develish days!

After the show we took a taxi to hard Rock Café for an afterparty where we were on the guestlist among with other ticket-winners. But it was actually not much fun there, not much people at all. But that suited us well, we had a few drinks and sat down talking about what we had just been through. Trying to understand that we had actually just seen Tokio Hotel live för the first time.

I don’t now if I understand it yet.

It was the best night of my life.
