Record of the Week: Humanoid
October 12, 2009
This is amazing because this positive review is from MTV.de. MTV has not always been a good friend to Tokio Hotel in Germany, but it appears that Humanoid is changing their mind! As it should! It’s incredible to think that the first music made by Tokio Hotel in Germany was recorded when they were only 13 and now, here they are, young men in their early 20s, scoring the #1 record in Germany. Again.

Here is the MTV blog, translated by dypnf:
Sounds sappy, but proves to be true nevertheless: Tokio Hotel have grown up and published after two preadolescent records with “Humanoid” the first album to take serious.
It’s bad manners to like this band. Who otherwise has run Sonic Youth or Yo La Tengo at his player at home, for them Tokio Hotel are the embodiment fo what as commercial shit counts: A lousy teenie band which is not even able to play their own instruments. Prejudices, which we should say goodbye, because the native Magdeburger have long past their puberty and fabricate on their new, third studio album, “Humanoid” extraordinarily clever stadium rock.
The first creation after the worldwide breakthrough differs immensely from his predecessors: not only on textual level, the well-known teenage problems (stress with parents, stress with friends, trouble with their own identity) disappeared with a few exceptions, also musically the songs seem to be more elaborated and fit thanks to the bombastic production, excellent to the content.
The science fiction scenario, which Bill Kaulitz is singing about in the lyrics is so efficient programmed like his lion’s mane styled. As if someone had put together what belongs together: the cold and aloofness of this band is pressed to “Humanoid” in album length. How nice, it worked, because Tokio Hotel have always been musical, as well as visual a master plan – carried away, out of space and taking place in a parallel world, which leaves little room for human feelings.
It will take time until the relevant media is going to accept the Quartet. Still there are prejudices and misjudgement that Tokio Hotel are snotty fellows who happen to come along without a profile. However, it is harder to confront them open minded. “Humanoid” gives enough reasons to do so.
