Padova recap by TheMichMonk

Tagged With: ,

From everything we have seen so far, this concert was rated 11111 on a scale of 1-10. Thank you so much to TheMichMonk for taking the time to write this recap and keep sharing the experience with us!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Sorry this is long. My daughter asked me if I was writing a book report.

After all my giddy talk yesterday about the Torino concert, I woke up feeling beyond exhausted for the Padova concert. But I made this trip for one reason and one reason only, to forever seal the bond between TH and me. At 5 p.m., I plastered on eye make up that could have probably been seen in the dark, just so I could look awake and vibrant.

The drive from the hotel to the stadium happened without any missteps. Immediately I picked up on several differences in concerts. A couple things that made this one special is that it was on a Friday, so there were more parents with their children, high school kids and college students in the audience. There were also a huge percentage of male fans and I’m including men in their 20-30′s who were jamming at the concert.

The line to get into the venue was thick and no organization. We ran up the sides of the line and merged. Then the crowd pushed us along until we went through security. I ran into stadium and this time I passed up on the seats and stayed on the floor. The fans kept pouring in. The noise level was high. You could feel the excitement in the air. They were there to celebrate this band in a big way.

After the obligatory sound checks and the pre-concert music selection, the stadium went dark and Noise started. A deafening roar filled the space and only escalated when Tom and Georg emerged and then went through the roof when Bill appeared in the egg.

There were technical constraints with no top half of the egg and no pyrotechnics because of the fire code for the building. You know what? These guys were so on fire that, although I appreciate the extra touches, they were fine without them.

From where I stood, I felt as if I could reach out and touch them. Bill is perfection. The stage make-up on his face was heavy, made him look intense, and escalated his sexiness to an uber level. His hair is so thick and black. Yes, Bill mesmerized me.

As if he could feel the vibes of the filled-to-capacity venue, he encouraged their responses with smiles, waves, a flick of his hand. And we were too happy to strain a few vocal chords. Tom and Georg jumped and I jumped. If they clapped their hands, I gladly followed. They basically had me –mind body and soul –for those two hours.

I felt like I and my fellow NTOs (Never Too Old – a social group on the USA fanclub) had the best spots in the house. We were able to dance, sing, and act like true fan girls for the entire night. At one point, I screamed so loudly that I made myself dizzy. I leaned over to tell Alpacamom that a heart attack at this concert was a distinct possibility.

There were a couple memorable fan moments that occured. I saw a father and his special needs daughter standing near us. At one point, she started dancing like the NTOs, copying our moves and her father thought her erratic movements was bothering us. He shook her to get her to settle down. And after she stopped, she sobbed. I couldn’t concentrate on Bill any more because I was about to take the father down (I also didn’t know at the time that she was special needs. I just thought he was stupidly ruining her concert experience.) So I told him to have her come stand in front of me. He declined. But then he noticed that she was sobbing and he tried to comfort her and she shrugged away from him. Then he took her to the spot in front of me and he stroked her head, rubbed her shoulders and hugged her. But she wiggled away from him and continued sobbing. But when Bill came down the catwalk, she lit up and got super excited. By the end of the night, she took a TH scarf that she’d tied around her head and held it over her head in celebration. Her father took her out after Monsoon played, but she danced to that song just the way she wanted.

Anyway, I was glad that in Torino I got to see the concert with that overall perspective. Tonight, however, it was sheer party mode. I think the guys were happy to see a packed house. Bill chatted with the audience, acknowledged their cheers, smiled and smiled some more.

My Gustav moment was when he baptized the audience from his water bottle. Then he tossed the bottle and it soared into the air and came down straight at me. The spotlight from the stage blinded me, I had my own water bottle in my hand but I caught it before it slipped through my fingers to the floor. I considered going for it then I heard the large number of feet coming toward me and I panicked and ran from the pile up. A girl who stood in front of me got it and she stroked the bottle for the rest of the night. LOL

This trip to Italy to see Tokio Hotel will forever live on in my memory.

    All of this is still unreal. But as I have quiet moments, I remember so many wonderful flashbacks of the concert and the fans. I’m grateful for the close friendships that I developed because of THA and the mutual love for TH with my fellow NTOs.

    Its so amazing to hear the wide diversity of fans at these concerts, from NTOs, fanboys in their 20-30s, and special needs. It brings happy tears to my eyes. These boys have touched so many diverse people with their music all over the globe. (And how dare people still call them a “TEENIE” band. Lol)
