JBK: World behind my wall – Tokio Hotel!
Nice to see you! Hi…
And great that you have time to jaw a bit and don’t flee.. yeah, come closer a bit. Everybody grabs his mic. We wanna try to come about a talk, I guess it won’t be easy, because of the fans. I’ve just said: Germany’s musical export nr. 1! How often were you actually in Germany, when you travel all around the world the whole year?
Bill: Well, I have to say, here and there we come from time to time to Germany and of course we all live in Germany and our families and friends are also here. Actually if we have time in the meanwhile, we’re here.
JBK: So you can still enjoy your home country?
Bill: Yeah, totally! Absolutely! For us it’s clear, Germany is the absolute nr. 1 for us, it’s our home in any case.
JBK: I imagine that organizationally it’s very difficult to be underway in the whole world, but although keeping contacts going and living this sense of home. If you’re in North America, in South America, in France, everywhere where Tokio Hotel is present in the vanguard, then concurrently keep this feeling for Germany, is not easy?
Tom: Well, I think it’s not that difficult, to be honest. You have this feeling of being home automatically. It’s not that we have to customize again when we’re in Germany. It’s really that everytime when you’re in Germany, you’re at home. That’s clear, I think, that’s completely automatic, to be honest.
JBK: Yeah.. Could you describe what the year 2009 was like, for you? It went higher and higher, you got international prizes…
Georg: A very stressful year, in any case. Eeeeh… a wicked year, a year full of fun, full of joy..
Bill: In any case, it really happened a lot of things. After every year it was that we thought ‘Okay, what’s next? What are we doing? How does it go on?’ And the new album came out and that it’s so well received and that it goes on so great for us, that isn’t normal in any case. You don’t expect that it will stay like this. This feeling is everytime like… new and a really great feeling.
JBK: But it’s crazy that if you made formerly planning for your tour, you said somewhere between Flensburg and Kempten, and with Cologne and Berlin, and Hamburg and Munich, by this time, you’ll play 2 concerts in Germany and you play international the whole time. That’s just crazy.
Bill: Yeah well, there’s a lot to do, in any case. We totally enjoy it. I mean, we just can do that because we have such great fans here in the beginning. If we wouldn’t have had this support from Germany , then it wouldn’t be possible. It was good, absolutely.
JBK: And is it actually possible to organize also a life beside the band life? Are you able to go through the streets with a hat and a wig and stay incognito? Is this your blessedness?
Georg: Well, I would say, we can do this definitely easier than Bill and Tom, they really get recognized by their tip of the nose.
Tom: I have to say that our personal life organizationally is simply a disaster, to be honest. You just don’t get to anything. You’re just a few days at home and I also let my bags packed.
JBK: That means living out of the suitcase also at home?
Bill: Yeah, totally! We just put down our 10 bags and… (don‘t understand, sorry :/ )
Tom: Well, Bill always forgets to wash them and then it always smells very unpleasant.
JBK: Please no more stories! Tom, when you say ‘You don’t get to anything’, what would you love to accomplish when you’re home?
Tom: Eh, I don’t know, I actually don’t intend to do something special. Actually I just want to relax, watch TV and yeah, to be together with my family and my dogs of course! We’re absolutely dog-fanatic and I enjoy the time with… (?)
JBK: Just to have a relaxed time..?
Bill: Well, actually we have a whole dog-kindergarten at home and 4 dogs, who are jumping all over the place the whole time, and every free time we spend with our dogs.
JBK: Anytime in the life of young men it is, that the dogs get replaced by young women.
Tom: It’s already the case here.
Bill: Well, Georg is the only one of us who is in a relationship and ehm…
Tom: It’s very sad for everyone now, but …
Bill: For Tom it was also really hard…
Tom: Yeah, it was a really hard time, because normally I ever played the first fiddle in Georg’s life before then…
Georg: But you still are very important to me…
JBK: A very very important part…
Bill, when I look at you, I think everytime ‘Well, girlfriend, dogs, journeys…’ Maybe once a Pizza Margherita, you’re so thin! (I haven’t found the one-to-one-translation for “Da ist ja gar nichts mehr dran!” :/ )
Bill: Unfortunately I just get water here by you.

I’m very happy that you’re here and the whole evening I have been watching at a banner. Could you please make me a favor and write some autographs…? I’m looking the whole evening onto a banner of two girls where is written “Need a TH Autograph as Christmas present for my friend!”. Then I said ‘Okay, there I have to act as an ambassador and have to make it possible.’ Live signed in the TV. Now I act honestly… Here’s the autograph. They have been sitting here since 3,5 hours and have been waiting for it… No no no, without telephone number, just the autograph! That’ll have to do. No, no, NO! I’m very strict such cases! Then I become suddenly very grown up! But really, the whole evening I have been looking on this banner…
It was a great pleasure that we have such a great band, who is such an awesome export product and who provides a german business card in the music world and who has stayed still so cool and has such a relaxed performance here.

HEY!!!!! Listen up you guys!!!!!! I am a Tokio Hotel fan!!!! but i have come across some disturbing news. The album is not doing so well….:( As fans we don’t want this to happen!!!!! If you really really love Tokio Hotel than please actually buy the album! I looked on billboard.com and could not find the album in the charts!! (that was last week may have changed) we voted tokio hotel as the best group for 09!!! but we need to back them up with sales. forget about the money i know the boys are most likely rich by now. its not the money if the album doesn’t do well than the band loses creditability or worse record deals, endorsements… if we fail to make the album a success then as fans we fail tokio hotel. so GET OUT THERE AND BUY THE ALBUM DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT!!!!

If you listen to 4:37, he messes up. I think they have a backtrack, but he is singing. There are also parts where you can hear him pronouncing differently than the track.

I really love Bill’s outfit in this one. I know it doesn’t have anything particularly noteworthy like his previous outfits, but this just really seems like it suites him well.
Also, I wonder how he felt being on a completely separate stage like thing than Tom, especially because they didn’t get to have one of their “moments” that they usually do.

They were singing live. Bill said some words differently and there is a part where he’s supposed to sing and he didn’t. I thought it wasn’t live at first as well, but it’s just our boys being exstremely good. :)

Don’t you think that words “trick people” are little bit unfair and disrespectful to the band? Yes, we all would prefer for them to play live on the European TV shows, but they not for some reasons. I don’t care what the reasons are, honestly. They’ve done gazillions of live concerts around the world and in States that I would respect them enough not to be offended by FEW TV performances in Europe done prerecorded. Why is it so crucial for so many of you? You hear one freaking song playback on TV show and you immediately throwing more than 5 years of their live concerts and festivals away? Why? I really can not understand that?

I don’t understand it either. All of us know that they play excellent live, and not ONCE, even when Bill was going through puberty, did they do a live show with playback. Never in one of their own concerts. On TV shows, it’s understandable, even to be expected. Shows over there are usually playback, it’s TV people’s decision, not the bands. The boys would have probably preferred to play it live, but they had no choice.

i agree as well. stop bitching and moaning about playbacks for tv performances… if ppl want to blame someone, blame the TV SHOW AND NETWORK. they are the ones who chose whether performances are live etc.. if the boys could have, they would have performed on the show live the day it came on tv, instead of having to tape the show two days previous…
it’s easier for tv shows and networks to have performances in playback, because it cuts down on costs or some crap like that..
but like i said before BLAME THE TV SHOW, NOT TOKIO HOTEL, IT WAS NOT THEIR FAULT…

I am NOT blaming them, I LOVE Tokio Hotel, but come on people. Don’t get hurt because someone wants them to “stand up” against playback, like Muse did. It’s just FUN!
And SECOND of all, I am from NORWAY, which is ALSO IN EUROPE, and we certainly don’t have so much playback in our tv-shows! That’s a lame excuse, I’ve seen a lot of European shows from Norway, Sweden, England, Italy, Germany, and so on, which is NOT playback!
Cheer up, people. I LOVE Tokio Hotel, I even got a tattoo which says “Lass uns laufen” . :)

It’s not their fault, they would have preffered to play live, it’s just the stupid German TV shows that are making the decisions. So stop hating on Tokio Hotel, it’s not their fault.

Something about this song just sounds so epic when they sing it live. I wish I could see them perform it live!!!! It just totally has a different feeling to it then when you just listen to it on their CD. They are at their best when performing live!!! Not many bands today can say that, they usually sound horrible live.

Yes I whole heartedly agree, that is one of the things I love about tokio hotel cause they sound exactly like they do on the album when they play live!!!!! I hate when it doesnt sound right, if you like the way it sounds on the cd you would want it to sound like that at a concert. And I hate it most when the singer doesnt sound the same, like when it sounds like they tweek their voice, like avril lavigne doesnt sound anything like she does on her cd, she sounds horrible live and that pisses me off cause that just seems fake. but bill sounds EXACTLY the same live as he does on the cds its awesome I dont know if that is a european vs. america thing but I love them for that!!!! They are the only band that I would ever want to see live!!!!!! EVER, cause they arent fake!!!!

whenever i think i have my obsession under control, i see a performance like this and am completely thrown into it again. their movements, bill’s outfit (omg, perfect! love no necklaces, sneakers, black nails and the coat. divine)gustav’s energy, tom’s concentration and georg’s hair (hehe). it’s all just too much and i am completely envious of every one who gets to see them in concert in europe next year. i feel like i’m thirteen again i’m so giddy over this band. pure love.

Bill’s sneakers are adorable in my opinion. I know there’s been a lot of talk about them lately, but I understand. Boots with heels hurt your feet eventually; Bill’s just taking a well-deserved break.
But honestly, playback or live, that was awesome. Bill looked beyond amazing, really, they all did. Anyone else notice how HARD Gustav works at EVERY concert??? Best drummer ever. No exaggeration. <3<3
But really, I am so glad God blessed these 4 boys with these beautiful talents. Tokio Hotel shall live on in our hearts forever. :)

Yeah it really frustrates me, because it deprives Tokio Hotel of showing off their true, raw talent. Just to save a couple bucks on electricity. It’s annoying. But Tokio Hotel in concert blows EVERYTHING out of the water, so it’s ok. :)

That. Was. Amazing. Wow. Definitely worth waiting all day for. And I mean…I know there was a lot of talk over Bill’s sneakers, but I personally think they’re adorable. And I mean, you’ve got to know that wearing heels all the time has got to hurt his poor feet! I can totally understand wearing sneakers from time to time.
