Wow. The accolades for Tokio Hotel’s performance tonight are pouring in. It’s like having a REALLY GOOD DAY and then people tell you again and again how good it was and just being happy over and over. We loved today, can you tell?

MTV Europe Music Awards 2009: The pop is saved
Just in time for the Fall of the anniversary of the MTV Europe Awards have taken over the capital. While U2 played at the Brandenburg Gate and Tokio Hotel almost abfackelten (burned down?) the stage, the evening was primarily one thing clear: The future of the Royal Family Pop is guaranteed. By Sophie Albers
The king is dead, long live the king Bill Kaulitz
Stop the presses, and retrieves the patrols. The 16th MTV Europe Music Awards proved one thing above all: that we must get to the Kingdom of Pop not worry. Yes, the king is dead (of course, Michael Jackson was also honored that evening with a tribute. She was even funny and beautiful people from the street singing his hits.) But who has not thought so before, which was still once said that Bill Kaulitz has taken the crown. The singer of Tokio Hotel as mysterious and androgynous looks like King Michael in his heyday. Only for the Moonwalk must be the pop-folk looking for someone else.
And then the desperate seek for a successor to Madonna. In the new queen is already there, worked, and she reigned in splendid beauty, albeit with a strict hand: Beyoncé’s appearance in a monstrous box of chocolates, the Kate Perry and Lady Gagas refer to their seats. It was pomp, ostentation and pop to perfection.
In general, Kate Perry. Despite suspenders, darling, on the flaunted underwear, bed, boots and the ever-to the O-shaped mouth had the asterisk, which could moderate the evening, about as much sex appeal, like the thick lederbejackte Einheizen, in all 20 minutes of the show cleaving commercial breaks jumped on the stage to hold about 9000 spectators happy. No, a woman is not fresh and sexy, just because they are the two words constantly repeated. Perry’s jokes were boring and annoying. Sometimes the perfect show had settled like, because no interest to the U.S. market. Beyonce wanted to pass their award for best artist right on Shakira. They already had two. Many of the stars appeared not to be right there. But that was probably the short attention span of the TV cameras due.
Tokio Hotel and U2
Two highlights of the evening had durchwachsene: the appearance of Tokio Hotel and the live Kill for a free concert by U2 at the Brandenburg Gate.
The beauty of Tokio Hotel are in addition to the increased ability of the former school band from Magdeburg, the fans. When the guys arrive just before 22:30 clock on the stage, chatting with Pete Wentz Kate Perry important, placebo and Juliette Lewis. But the interest in the huge O2 Arena anybody. The Tokio Hotel’s typical screaming begins. MTV Awards? Indifferent? U2? No matter. Reunification? Whatever! Finally, Bill Kaulitz is waiting in black leather and sunglasses on his bet. When he finally allowed to sing, and rise behind him even columns of flame, which is really a thin boy king of pop. Since even the drums start the fire.
The kings of rock, it is again, the same capture time in German history. U2 may, what was left Barack Obama denied: occurring against the backdrop of the Brandenburg Gate. Berlin is the stadium, and the glow of lighters replaced the phone display when playing rock veterans to complete “Sunday Bloody Sunday”. Jay-Z is also there and let himself be carried away by the momentous historical pathos: “I look forward to the time when all the walls fall and it is just about music.” But is it all about money, stupid, one might say. Leaving aside but then, because in this bubble of pop, opulence and we-feeling, the reality on a break.

this a really confusing article, but that might be because its a transulation, is it? if not then i think it pretty badly written, anyways sorry need to get out of my “proper writting mode” too much english class, lol.
i also dont really like how they implied that Bill is replacing MJ, he will always be King of Pop, u cant just replace some one because they die if anything that ashould make him an even bigger legend nd have him rembered even more. And Bill isn’t really like MJ, either its great to be compared to him but their styles are different,Bill isnt really pop like MJ was. But Bill does most definately have his own throne being carved out for him, more like King of Punk or PopRock. Long live both Kings new and old alike! Long like King of Pop Michael Jacson and Long live King of PunkPop Bill Kaulitz!

i agree that Bill is his own unique category, neither pop nor rock but a mix of both and something more – he’s nothing like anyone else who came before <33
i don't think MJ can ever be "replaced" b/c what he did and accomplished in his life was GROUNDBREAKING, but it was a nice compliment from MTV
and im glad that they recognized what a bad host Katy Perry was ugh :P

being compared to MJ has gotta be the awesomest compliment ever, but i think it’s an insult to MJ to crown someone else as the king of pop just because he is dead. don’t get me wrong. TH is one of the best things that ever happened to me, and I love them to death, but I think Bill should have his own special category.
And idk about the pop thing. TH doesn’t fit in with the stereotype of pop, but that doesn’t matter cuz it’s a stereotype. Also, they’re popular in a lot of areas, but they’re unheard of in some parts of the world (we can fix this). they sell a lot of albums and venues are always packed for them, but it’s a rare thing for me to see TH on an American TV show or hear them on an American radio station (idk, maybe it’s cuz i live in AZ).

I’ve read through all of these comments and I both agree and disagree with many of the things stated here but I won’t get into it. There’s really only one thing have to say/add to all of this; I believe that Tokio Hotel is really neither pop nor rock, nor really any other genera either. They sort of drift around from one category to the next depending on what they feel. Their “sound” changes as they grow and as they discover new interests and gain more life experiences. So no, Tokio Hotel to me is not a pop band(the stereotypical perception of pop not the actual meaning that skizzer provided us with in her review :D) or a rock band, or an anything band for that matter. They are simply Tokio Hotel and they do as they please without the restrictions of labels or stereotypes.

I think Bill is a great artist too and TH is a great band but they can’t be compared to such a HUGE artist just because of a performance .. mtv should be more careful with their articles !!!!
anyway .. i like this article :D Bill is great and we know it !!!

I thought this review was quite reasonable ^_^ Both Bill and Michael are amazing, so being compared isn’t all that bad.
We all know they were both individual and left their marks, so what’s the big issue?

Bill shouldn’t be compared to anybody because i personally think there is no one in the world like him. He is like a whole unique person of himself. He is beautiful and no one else can pull his style, makeup, or songs off.
He is amazing and i love him to death <3

She is rly horrible at singing!
…
For the whole thing about Bill Kaulitz being the King of Pop… well I kind of think that it’s awesome… he could totally pass for KOP2… MJ will always be KOP1 but there could be a second one… come on who actually thinks that there could never be another KOP? that just doesnt make sense
…
This is just my opinion though

Let’s face it…. they are pop. By any terms pop is something bad. There have been GREAT pop artists, and I think all the artists have been influenced by pop in some way.
I don’t know why you don’t like when people call them pop.
Not all the pop artist are Britney Spears (with all the respect to Britney, no offense). I think we have in mind the stereotype of pop artists, “They’re plastic, they can’t sing, they don’t write their own songs”. Pop is more than that, not just a music genre, is part of our everyday culture.

Ummm I love Tokio Hotel and Bill Kaulitz and all, but he does not replace Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson sold over 100 million albums and had (about) 13 hits reach #1. And this is the whole band, Tokio Hotel, not just Bill Kaulitz. Ah! Don’t get me wrong! I love them! But… I just don’t think that’s the right title… like, they have great music, but they appeal to mostly teenagers, yes they have many many fans of all ages(which is good), but the majority is teenagers(which isn’t a bad thing either), but ah I don’t know what it is! but they haven’t reached there yet

I think Bill and MJ have some similarities, they are both Virgos -(interesting),have their own unique style, have had controversy in the press about their sexual orientation, and both have that sweet demeanor and boyish charm. They are both talented, but MJ was multitalented and one of the greatest performers in pop history, and those are large shoes to fill!!

Oh stop your whining! I think it’s a complement that Bill was compared to MJ. MJ was great. We all know that and we all respect him. He will always be the king of pop. Long live the king MJ. But as you can see, some people are already moving on (not that MJ is being forgotten) but i think they feel that there needs to be a new king to take the thrown? Perhaps Bill kauliz? BK. xD
This article made my mouth drop xD i think it was really special for them to even consider Bill “a king of pop”.
Maybe, Long live the king kaulitz? Haha.
Well i think it was just great for the to even consider that. MJ is not forgotten people. Nor will he ever be. Maybe some people just don’t want to see an empty thrown anymore? Anyway. Great article. Really special!

In the end, Tokio Hotel is a great band.

I think its annoying that some of you are complaining about Bill being compared to MJ. MJ was a great guy regardless if you liked his music or not. The fact that people, Important People, are claiming that Bill is similar to MJ is a major compliment and everyone should be incredibly happy.
Support TH, not bring them down because you don’t like the compliment. Be happy for them! THey deserve it!

I am not big fan of MJ. But I don’t think Bill should be compare to MJ yet. Not visually, not musically. They are different and Bill has long way to go to be what MJ was for a lot of people in the world. But Bill does have the huge potential. And the talent and drive and energy and charisma and enthusiasm and beauty and most important he is very very very likable as person. Bill is like a breath of fresh air when you see him. He is naïve and confident at the same time. He is all light even though he always wear black… You can tell I love him, right? :)
So no, Bill is not MJ. And he doesn’t need to be.
He is Bill Kaulitz!!!

Well flippin said. :D I personally think that MJ was incredible, a musical miracle in human form. But in my opinion we still have a long-ish way to go. Tokio Hotel (i think the whole band deserves crdeit for the preformance and all their accomplishments..I love bill but let’s not leave out the big picture. *it’s like crditing actors for the movie only when the director and crew did a good amount of work to.*) have yet to totally break America. they are not topping our Itunes charts…yet…but they are well on their way. I think if they get that big shot to show america what their made of…(I’m talking big leaguges) they can totally get on MJ’s level they have the talent, swag, personalities to be our kings of pop, or pop-rock, or rock..whichever. We need a fanaction people…we need to help them break this country because they are like prince-s ready for the throne and I think it’s possible. Let’s make it happen. You can call them kings all you want or you can help make it happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sorry for getting into my rally cry ;) but I definately see the possibility there. RIP MJ and thank you for pointing out how much katy sucked XD

I think it’s cool.
People, stop saying TH isn’t a pop band. If you knew about pop music, you’d know there is no such genre called pop. Pop music is POPULAR music. Pop music is what sells, what the ppl are listening to. There is no one sound to pop music. An artist is considered a pop artist based on record sales, concerts, and digi downloads. example: lil wayne sells a million albums his 1st week, he is a pop artist bcause he is popular, his cd’s sell good, but it dsnt mean he’s not a rapper. TH is a pop band becuase they sell out shows, their cd’s sell and their fanbase is incredible. Pop isn’t a sound, it’s jst what sells, what catches the attention to the public. But yeah I dnt mean to offend anyone, jst givng out a little music lesson lol because we all love TH and our love and support make them pop artists, which is a great thing for them. :)

yes, popular of the day, maybe in ten years they won’t be? MJ was the king because he sold so many records of his time and sold out shows and people to this day still buy his albums (not just after his death because i had friends obsessed with him before) I know I’ll still like TH in ten years, but maybe not everybody will. You can’t give someone a crown when they’ve only done 4 years. Michael Jackson had fame all through his life, all over the world. They haven’t stood the test of time yet, I love them, but it’s like getting inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. I love them, but it’s not time (yet…)

Ohk, so this is just solely my opinion, I’m probably gonna get blasted for it, but oh well.
Bill Kaulitz should never be compared to Michael Jackson. NO ONE should be compared to Michael Jackson. Maybe it’s because I didn’t particularly like MJ, but I find that a great insult.
THEY’RE NOT POP!!! D; And I really wish people would stop saying they are. Tokio Hotel is not a Pop band, leave that to the jonas brothers.
AND BILL KAULITZ DOES NOT LOOK LIKE MICHAEL JACKSON IN HIS “heyday” ….D; no!
But yeah. That’s my opinion. Sorry if I offended anyone.

I both agree and disagree with what you said. I dont think Bill should be compared to Michael Jackson, but for a different reason. I personally believe he was one of the worlds greatest talents in history and Bill has not even come close to reaching his level of success and creativeness, etc.
I dont like when they are referred to as pop either, but if you listen to their older albums compared to this one, you have to admit their sound has become much lighter and electronic :/ So, they really dont fit into the “rock” catergory anymore and I guess pop is the only spot left.

Well, I agree with you. I know there are people out there that think Michael Jackson was the best performer ever. He could dance and sing for sure but there is a lot of negative things associated with him, too. (the plastic surgery, drugs, ped stuff & being overly eccentric)to name a few. For me, the only connection I see is they both sing, have black hair and wear guyliner. I don’t see the comparison as a positive. ):
Bill is totally himself and original in a brilliant way and I hope to God this comparison doesn’t get repeated frequently. Plus I don’t think any artist enjoys being compared to another artist, no matter who that person may be. It doesn’t come across as a compliment, ya know?

I agree to a point. I was never a fan of MJ but I don’t really have anything against him, either. In the wake of his death I think a lot of people have forgotten that he wasn’t exactly loved by everyone in the last decade of his life…actually I’m a bit confused about that, some of the same people who were previously hating him and making fun of him on a daily basis are now crying over him. But that’s for a different discussion xD
In any case, I don’t think it’s the greatest comparison and I certainly hope Bill doesn’t go down the same path as MJ did. I can see the similarities in a few ways, not least of which in that they both challenge the norms, but they’re also both very different. Even so, it is an honor that this interviewer thought that highly of Bill. No one can deny that Michael was one talented guy.
In the end, I hope TH and Bill can break free of any comparisons and be in their own category.

Wow! I love both, no one can ever compare to MJ, simply because he was the first at so many things. They have a lot of similarities though: they both have their own style, are kids at heart, exceedingly sweet, showmen on stage, I could go on and on. And in a way, Bill/Tokio Hotel is breaking language barriers, just like MJ broke racial barriers. MJ was the world’s greatest humanitarian though. But Bill still has a bright future ahead of him with so many opportunities.
