All Music Guide reviews Humanoid

Tagged With:

Eyeliner-heavy, German teen pop quartet Tokio Hotel’s third (and second English language) full-length album is a significantly louder and considerably darker affair than their previous outings.

While there’s little doubt that screaming teenage girls will still stand front and center at the foot of the stage, the band has set its sights on the “First Person Shooter” male demographic this time around, baiting the hook with enough generic sci-fi imagery and Depeche Mode-meets-Fall Out Boy melodrama to fuel one hundred angry bike rides home from work.

That’s not to say that the results aren’t effective, as Humanoid, though predictable and generally harmless, is immaculately crafted, thanks in part to longtime producer David Jost and a handful of A-list engineers. Between the Auto-Tune heavy first single “Automatic” and the Arcade Fire-lite stadium anthem “World Behind My Wall,” one can almost envision the elaborate stage show being planned for the next MTV video music awards, and while Tokio Hotel may not have matured enough to hang with the big boys yet, they are most certainly the dark horses pacing up and down the Disney fringe.

Tokio Hotel’s name is intenationally recognized.
These boys are incredibly gifted and their future seems to be getting brighter and brigther.

But it would be great to see them star in a Hollywood Movie though.
I’d watch it. But it has to be written and filmed with a pretty damn good script and a fine director though.

I highly doubt Disney would decide to work with Tokio Hotel, despite the immense popularity the band has.
    Disney’s way too family-orientated.
But it would be pretty cool to see Tokio Hotel working withwith FOX, USA, NBC, CBS or that shit.
But that can only be possible in the future.

Guys, chill. They’re not saying TH is like Disney artists. They mean that, in a music scene predominated by Disney artists, they are still making themselves known, despite the odds. Hence the term ‘dark horse’, a dark horse is a candidate that is not expected to win, but ends up coming out on top in the end. The implication is that Tokio Hotel is set to take over the teen music scene. It’s a compliment, even if it’s a little oddly worded. XD

To even mention Disney in the same sentence with Tokio Hotel should be a crime….damn. Disney?? Really??…..

Disney. You. HAVE. to be kidding me.

Tokio Hotel and Disney. HAIL. NO. I dunno about you guys but there is NO way that I can imagine hem be in shows like Suite Life, Hannah Montana, or Waverly Place, i am sorry.

I swear this person who wrote this review needs to be slapped or something to have the nerve to be mentioning TH and Disney even in the same SENTENCE together.

    >.> Disney fans are just people that arent able to handle Tokio Hotel.

Oh, and about the segment about the “big boys”. Once again, needs to be slapped and needs to rewrite that sentence, because THEY ARE THE BIG BOYS!

i dont know about you guys but if Tokio Hotel got signed on to Disney, whether it be a music video for a classic movie, tv show, or special guest, I will tackle Bill(just cuz hes the smallest in weight wise) and choke him until he agrees to rip up the contract. Of course I wouldnt kill him, just frighten him a little, I hate the disney ppl. Just think, if they guest starred on Hannah Montana, all the HM fans would be like ‘omg their so cute!’ and then we would have a billion CFFs.

I think after this album, they are the ‘big boys’. And no Disney for these guys…can you imagine Bill talking about making a porn movie while under Disney contract?! Even though he’s just joking, no way would Disney understand. And that is as it should be. I am not a Jonas fan, and there’s a reason for that.

  21. Kyleigh says:

NO. No Disney for Tokio Hotel!!! That would be so weird. They are WAYYYY too good for Disney. (sorry, disney :P) I don’t know what I would do.

I think they are saying that they are going to
be heavy competition for the disney peeps[=
damn right, with tokio hotel in the mix,
    disney doesn’t stand a chance.

  26. Tori says:

Disney? DISNEY?! They’re an evil corporation and anyone captured in their clutches fails to escape.

That being said, Tokio Hotel is so much more talented musically than the people Disney THRUSTS upon us (admittedly, I do like Selena Gomez’s voice and the Jonas Brother don’t kill me on a good day) and I feel it’s a little insulting to compare them to disney channel stars.

I mean, if they’re not mature enough to hang with the big boys, that means they have to hang out with a bunch of kids? Burn.

this review makes it seem like I’m the oldest person, at my ripe old age of 17, who likes Tokio Hotel…
At the Disney Fringe? I’ve never looked at them and thought, Oh yes clearly they are Disney material. I actually think parents would riot if they saw the Kaulitz twins on Disney. lol.

    • lindsey says:

They are saying that they are NOT Disney stars… they’re similar in age and fans, but that’s it. “On the fringe” means that they are darker and much more cutting edge than the cookie cutter Disney stars.

Why are people freaking out about this? It’s more of a compliment than anything.
