Kaulitz. Kaulitz. How do you say…

June 4, 2009 by Schnee

Birgerline made this video for us. One of the very often asked questions is “How do you say your last name?” So, in this video, Bill and Tom answer that question themselves. No more confusion. Thank you Birgerline!

all of you guys on here wondering how to say Georg and Gustav’s names….I decided to work it out with my aunt (we are both German, so there shouldn’t be any question on if we’re just full of it haha)

We came to the conclusion that it’s GEY-org Listing and Gustav SHAY-fer. ^^ We hope we helped a little.

That’s a good thing. When I saw the first US TH reports on TV xD
that was kinda funny “Kolitz” “Tom Kolitz”
Yes it’s “Cow-litz” and written “Kaulitz” and for me it stay at “Kaulitz” cause I’m German myself ;-)

Ive always known how to say their name, since i study german. Its Kaulitz because AU makes an oww sound, but still, they say it adorabley!

…I’ve never had a question about pronouncing it.

It’s German, it is pronounced the way it is spelt.
If you understand the way you pronounce German vowels there would have never been a question.

Ahh but I think when you say how to pronounce it like Bill did in the end and ACTUALLY say it it sounds little different..like it flows differently. I’ve always said it like CALL-Litz but not exactly. quicker. So I think it’s kind of the same thing. because when he says it in the beginning he says it quicker and not like COWlitz but like a mix of the two..haha oh well. I tried getting into COW-litz but it always seems wrong to me. Like I say it wrong..idk names are confusinggggg.

It depends if it has an umlaut. And I have seen it with an unlaut and without an umlaut. So weather or not there actually is an umlaut over the a will determine the sound the a makes.

YAY!!! i’ve been pronouncing it right!!! now the REAL question is…how do you pronounce ‘georg’?
Gay-org or like the name ‘george’

    • emily says:

rate this comment Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

I usually alternate between Gee-Org and ‘George’ because in the Tokio Hotel TV episode where Bill is at the supermarket he calls georg “george” like the traditional American way, I guess its not so american after all.

      • liltokiox3 says:

        i say gee orge
        i never say george O____________o

        • Sara says:

rate this comment Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

the way you spelled it made it like gee-orgy i just say gee org. they george when speaking english because that’s the english version of the name. i always say call-itz and everytime i look at the name i think of how the “au” sound is “ow” and wonder why it’s pronounced call-itz. now it all makes sense.
